The Voltas air conditioner ad is making its presence felt in every IPL 2010 game, and they annoy me. I find the nursery rhyme quite a nag.
The Voltas AC tag line of "sensible cooling" is very sensible indeed. Power costs are rising consumers awareness and demand for energy efficient solutions is increasing. Individual households are pro-actively doing their bits to switch to renewable, alternate or efficient sources of energy. This effort of energy saving could be as little as switching to CFL lamps or as big as solar water heaters or rain water harvesting.
In that context, Voltas Air conditioner advertisement's efforts to enlighten consumers towards sensible use of their products is good. I just wish they had executed it differently and in a more serious and sensible tone. None of the AC manufactures seem to be doing this. Godrej AC ads i should mention is an exception.
You see, in Bangalore one can manage without an AC. A ceiling fan can suffice. The recent years however have seen few months of summer with few days of super hotness, add to this the fact that we are spoilt by access to ACs at work, inside vehicles, at malls, inside theaters, etc. So to manage at home without an AC seems little daunting. Thats how the seed of the new need is sown. Thats my reason to give the AC ads a look, which for these many years I have conveniently ignored.
Some may find the nursery rhyme Voltas AC sensible cooling ad to be sweet, but i found it annoying and the fact that it gets repeated so many times adds to the frustration. Besides it does not even seem to be made for first time AC buyers, meaning there is no product talk. The ads are all about how to use ACs efficiently and save money. I could do that with any AC, why Voltas then?
