The small car from Tata has got so much news around it - its already a household name. And, its not even on road yet.
The product and the price hype created thus far has made it a celebrity in itself :). So unlike other small cars this has not yet needed a filmy celebrity to support it. Come to think of it - who could be a good brand ambassodor for the nano ? Would it be a male or female ?
The countdown ads before and the full page ad on the launch day were statuatory requirements - they were needed - they were there.
But now look at how nano's popularity is being used to bring crowds into westside :)
Prudent use of advantage they have from one product to help another. The curiosity that nano has created amongst us all provides Tata a good opportunity to cash in.
Nano bookings are open for a month. Then we will start seeing them on road and the curiosity would be gone.
It will be interesting to see how the nano communication will help maintain and enhance the advantage it has gained. In six months to a year nano may not have the same price advantage, there definitely will be competition. What will it do to keep the pride of first time takers intact?
Interesting also would be to see what stance Nano communication takes towards envoirnmental issues. If Nano is going to add to the vehicle volumes on road, and is expected to do so at a large scale - it would make sense to get a lot of goodwill by sending out green messages. Lets hope it does send out such messages!
If any of the competition that enters does a better job at communicating benefits like manouverability, safety, space and smart electronics - nano will have an uphill task. Take a look at the "Smart ForTwo" international commercial. These kind of work set a high enough benchmark.
As of now its a 'dream' thats realized. Will this be positioned as a motorbike replacement, or as a second car for running errands, or as a car for the college crowd, or as a car for young indian single working woman, or as a car for middle class family of 4 in tier 2 cities ...... Hmm ... We will get to know sooner or later.
