Why I like the Tata Docomo ads? Because they are all minimalistic, focussed and communicate one single message of asking consumers to try "the new". The new is the one second pulse - a very good product differentiator.
This product differentiation is being promoted to the hilt and is giving consumers a very tangible benefit to associate and brand the service. I know it now as the one second pulse telecom service, not as a zoozoo service or walk when you talk serivce.
I have seen these hoardings in all shapes and sizes, makes me feel that they are all over the place.
"Do the new" does rhyme with "Do the dew" of mountain dew and thats a risk. It does feel copied and gives everyone an opportunity to take a dig. They are lucky that the product advantage will make people gloss over it. However in my opinion it also provides an opportunity for everyone to bracket these two together.
It needs to be seen though how this will be taken forward. Sticking to "Do the New" can be constraining.

Thanks for pointing out nishant. Somehow I feel that the video ads are not taking forward the product as well as the print on the outdoor ads. Looks like docomo also has been bitten by the "make them laugh and they will remember" bug. The boy in airplane is funny in a good way, life is changing for the better here!!. Unfortunately the other too are not.
Besides Life changing in seconds and we paying by minutes dont really connect well :(.

DOCOMO is great
Till mid of 2009, Reliance was major player in India,
But after launching of DOCOMO in Mumbai & rest parts, I feel that DOCOMO will rule Indian Telecom in the next 2 years.
I stay in Mumbai & use to change the service providers simultaneously. Currrently I have 14 sim cards of various service providers.
But the day on which I heard that DOCOMO is in Mumbai, I ran like anything to buy DOCOMO.
My calls are heavy by last hardly upto 20sec.
So DOCOMO saved my huge telephone bills. DOCOMO is great in Mumbai with best network.
