Kareena Kapoor looks gorgeous. The product looks very good. The similarity ends there. The Sony Xperia product window at the end of this commercial really makes me want to check out the product. Like all Sony products this one also looks slick and attractive.
However, the messaging in the ad focuses on staying in touch with people. Ahem - given Kareena Kapoor's not-so-friendly image, I am not sure why they decided to use her for this ad. She is not known in the social networking space as an active celebrity. In fact, there were press reports around the launch of this product where Kareena said she was going to get active now that she has this product - now will she?
Looks like this is just a case of having signed on a celebrity for a brand, and then just leveraging them. The initial Sony Vaio commercial with Kareena made sense - size zero fit perfectly. But how is she a 'share with friends' ambassador?
But had they decided to go the 'attractiveness' or style route - the Kareena-Xperia combination would have worked brilliantly. As it is, it looks like the visual story is completely different from what we hear Kareena say. This does not work for me, and in fact does an injustice to the product I think.
