Nokia's recycle your phone and become "Planet ke Rakhwale" ad stood out and caught my attention only because it did not have a picture of a phone. Ever since i shifted loyalties to other smart phones nokia ads have failed to cure me of my ad-blindness for them.
Now, that i have shifted loyalties and over the last few years changed a few handsets and being somewhat of a responsible citizen want to dispose the old handsets in the most "greenest" way possible. Nokia with this ad seem to have an option for me. What about others?
Not all phones fetch a price in the second hand market; Like the few linux based phones i continue to own. Thats my story of keeping them, letting the kids use as long as the phones are functional. But the general trend is that people exchange/sell old phones while buying new ones. So how successful will this initiative be? Does it matter? Maybe it should. Does it make nokia the "greenest" of them all? To me it does.
What Nokia should do is to run a parallel program for small retailers to give up second sales and recycle old phones.
I do appreciate the fact that Nokia chose to communicate and educate the benefits of recycling mobile phones to the young children. Nokia also promises to plant a tree for every phone recycled! Coming from the highest selling mobile phone company in india it is indeed something to thank for and track.
