A drive from JP nagar to Richmond circle today and you will pass atleast a couple of bus stands that sport the "why do anything sivaa" Britannia Time Pass ads. The bald boys and "sivaa" grabbed attention. I liked the ad instantly, for a product that was named Time Pass I thought the tagline was apt. So I began my workday with that tweet.
The usage of "sivaa" is a very kannada thing, reminded me of college and my buddies. I am curious what the tagline will be in other languages. I was also curious on what these bald beauties would be made to do on TV.
I did not have to wait long, got this video via Campaign India and it surprised me when I heard them speak in Kannada. I am glad someone has taken the trouble of making something very specific to the local market where its being launched. Otherwise it always has been a generic "India" ad with transliteration or none at all.
Each of the ads, kannada or hindi, have a specific message to deliver about the product and the jokes spund around it make it memorable. I like all of them, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be the ad on "oil and third world war".
