I concur with the bunch of tweeple who complain Sharman Joshi does not look like a student. But, he definitely fits the character who has the gift of the gab to work his way out of situations. I remember him so from his successful films. Airtel in their new campaign "baat karne se hi baat banti hai" are capitalizing on this gift of Mr. Joshi, and they are doing it very well.
All the ads have situations where a particular Airtel service comes handy, be it GPRS, roaming or SMS. Every situation is all about the service being advertised, no distractions and of course the gift of Sharman to word his way out. He is using the service in every frame that he is in, making it more interesting. Like the GPRS ad is at the least informative to the uninitiated. The advantage of a Airtel price point or a customer friendly package i dont think will be missed.
My favorite is the "roaming service" ad, maybe because I have been in that situation many times. Realistic situations, good blend of service demonstration and personal charm added to that a very friendly tagline in my opinion gives Airtel a very good edge this IPL season(2010).
